The Securities Processing Division in our New York office is seeking a Tax Reporting and Cost Basis Senior Analyst to join our team. The Senior Analyst is expected to be a subject matter expert for IRS tax reporting requirements, cost basis concepts, financial products and broker-dealer operations.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Perform investigation and resolution of cost basis, tax withholding, and position reconciliation breaks identified through reports
- Perform investigation and resolution of client tax reporting and cost basis queries
- Perform investigation and resolution of 1099 & 1042-S reporting breaks
- Ensure 1099, 1042s & 1042 reporting is completed before IRS deadlines with maximum accuracy and minimal corrections needed
- Ensure timely remittance of withheld taxes
- Lead process-enhancement and risk-reduction initiatives
- Manage information requests from internal and external auditors
- Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Create and distribute daily KPIs and KRIs for management attention
- Identify and perform timely escalation of tax and cost basis related risks
- Coordinate resolution of breaks across stakeholders within Operations, resolve technical issues with vendors, and lead tax-related projects
- Provide guidance and leadership for junior analysts, demonstrate initiative in process enhancement and risk-reduction initiatives, and collaborate with peers across business functions to improve cross-functional efficiency
- Perform other tasks and duties as assigned
Experience and Skills
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university preferred; or 5-10 years of equivalent relevant work experience in place of the degree
- Advanced knowledge of the Maxit cost basis engine, Phase 3 and BETA accounting systems, and Wall Street Concepts’ Compliance Plus system
- Strong technical skills related to MS Excel and SQL databases
- Proficient with MS Word, Outlook, Access and PowerPoint
- Excellent math, reading comprehension, verbal and written communication skills
- Professional presentation and effective interpersonal skills is a must
- Aptitude for numbers and demonstrated problem solving abilities required
- Experience working with Refinitiv/TAXL or FIS/Scivantage preferred
